LEMURIA PROJECT
A filmmaking experience designed to give children a creative escape from their life-threatening medical conditions.
Lemuria Project's mission is to provide children the most magical escape possible from their life-threatening medical conditions. By placing a film production team at each child's fingertips, they design their charaters, costume, props, and the imaginary worlds they will travel to...as each child becomes the hero of their very own professional 3 minute short film.
The Process
The production process generally takes about 6-9 months to complete the full cycle per child.
-
1 month of Preproduction
(Story & Character Development)
-
2 months of Production (Build and Film)
-
3-6 months of Post Production
(Editing, Animation, and SFX)
The first two months are the most involved for the children. During the first phase they have the opportunity to learn about various production departments (props, makeup, set design, animation, music production, etc). We also have designed the process to require the least amount of time dedication to their already hectic schedules.
The Purpose
These childen's lives revolve around medical discussions, treatment schedules, and extended hospital stays for their procedures. We believe that engaging their imaginations and creativity, it will help them escape into a world of healing...opposite of constantly being told they are sick.
The Arts and Creativity have been proven to positively influence health, strengthen emotional and mental well being, prevent permanent trauma in cancer patients, and even reduce their symptoms to treatments. So imagine what the Lemuria Project process can do for a single child!

The Films
Each of their stories are told through a professionally created 3 Minute Live Action/Animated short film. A DVD and Digital package with their film, soundtrack, and behind-the-scense video of their process. These films will be submitted to local and national film festivals when completed. We will also be distributing the films to supporters, sponsors, and to the non-profits that each child is involved with.
Where we're at...
The project began in 2009 as an idea for a 'Day of Dressup' and children's fantasy themed photo shoot. In 2010, Kaela and her sister Lily became the 'queen's from 2 different universes'. After filming the behind-the-scenes, we realized their was much more of a story than we could tell in a children's picture book and the children needed to have way more input. 2 years later the film making process began with Xander The Dragon Rider and a small production team, building most of the designs off of his ideas, sketches, and his 'quest to cure cancer'. Part of Xander's film is featured in our video and the final scenes will be released with the next child's film. During the last 3 years Director James Anshutz has been building, designing, and improving the creative process for the 3rd next child.
